Category A listed Dumfries House, built between 1754 and 1759 to the design of John, Robert and James Adam and recognised as the most important house designed by the three brothers in the early period. The 1,945 acre estate is centred on Dumfries House and its surrounding designed landscape. The outlying agricultural and residential properties generate a current income of over £90,000 per annum, and are strategically placed around the principal house to provide privacy and seclusion. Within the policies, the ‘core’ estate, in addition to Dumfries House, there are 11 estate houses and cottages, two of which were also designed by the Adam brothers. The remainder of the estate has three further estate houses or cottages in addition to two farmhouses, two potential house sites, and two traditional stone steadings with development potential. On the estate fringes lie three farms, Orchardton, Bankend and Glenside, two of which have farmhouses. The land is best suited to mixed farming practice, comprising a variety of arable and ploughable ground, permanent pasture and rough grazing. Interspersed woodlands provide shelter for stock. Good roads and estate tracks facilitate easy access to most parts of the estate. As a whole, the land may be approximately analysed as follows: Land Type Acres (approx) Policies/parkland 84 Arable/ploughable 690 Permanent Pasture 550 Rough Grazing 164 Woodland (established) 365 Woodland (other) 64 Other 28 With the exception of Orchardton, all the agricultural land on the estate will be available with vacant possession at 28th November 2007, being let either on a seasonal basis (policy fields within Lot 1A and Glenside), or under a Short Limited Duration Tenancy (SLDT) expiring on 28th November 2007 (Bankend and the south-eastmost field within Lot 1A). Great pictures. I didn’t see a listing price for that place. I’m guessing the one shot was of the ballroom. Place must cost a fortune now. They just don’t make’m like they used to.
